The approval or rejection of visa applications, as well as the time of the process and the time of granting the visas, depend directly on the Colombian government. Colombia’s M-Type Freelancer visa allows international workers to stay in the country for up to three years as long as they are freelancing for a Colombian organization.
Note: this visa does not extend to freelancing for non-Colombian companies.

Colombia’s M-Type Freelance visa costs in total US $282. This is made up of an initial mandatory visa application fee of US $52 that is non-refundable even if you are rejected. If your visa application is successful, you’ll need to pay an additional US $230 to have your visa stamped in your passport.

Requirements for Colombia’s M-Type Freelance visa
To apply for Colombia’s M-Type Freelance visa, you’ll need to submit the following information:
• A scanned copy of the first page of your passport and the entry stamp of Colombia and copies of any previously held Colombian visas
• A 3 x 4 cm passport-style photo with a white background
• A visa application letter details your intentions of being an independent worker in Colombia, how long you intend to stay, and why
• A resume that outlines your experience and background
• Scanned copies of at least three education or professional certificates related to your occupation
• References from Colombian employers who have an interest in procuring your independent services
• Six months of personal bank statements showing you have been earning over 10-times the Colombian minimum monthly wage (COP $877,903), roughly USD $2,350 USD each month
